Argo’s story has deep roots in the maritime industry, starting in the 1980s in Naples, founded by the great passion of the Attanasio shipowning family for the sea and ships. We began by managing cargo vessels worldwide, laying the foundations for what would become a diversified and expanding operation. Over the years, we expanded our expertise, managing oceanographic research vessels that have sailed the Antarctic seas since 1989 for over 26 times till today. In the 1990s, we further expanded our know-how, starting to manage DP vessels in the offshore oil, gas, and wind sectors. In the 2000s, we also began managing offshore units dedicated to subsea mining, demonstrating our versatility in managing different kind of ships.
Our journey has been one of continuous learning and innovation. Over the decades, we have developed a deep, transversal expertise in ship management, always striving for excellence and embracing new challenges. This experience has also shaped our commitment to safety, sustainability, and pioneering advancements.
Today, Argo is a recognized leader in research vessel management, working closely with the Italian government on national and international oceanographic research campaigns. Our vessels have ventured from the Mediterranean to the Arctic, supporting 23 Antarctic and 3 Arctic research campaigns. We are proud to hold the first Polar Ship Certificate for an Italian ship, the RV Laura Bassi, a testament to our expertise in polar operations.
Argo is also a trusted partner in the offshore wind farm industry, playing a key role in Europe’s largest renewable energy project, the “Med Wind floating wind farm” in the Mediterranean Sea. We manage every aspect of wind farm development, from geophysical and geotechnical ROV surveys to underwater inspections, all with a strong focus on safety, innovation, and environmental stewardship.
Since 2000 Argo has been operating four offshore units engaged in underwater mining activities, by sampling diamond-bearing gravels at a depth of 185 meters offshore Namibian coast. This feat represents the deepest offshore diamond sampling and mining ever conducted, also by means of the technical management of a unique equipment like the ROSC (Remotely Operated Seabed Crawler) underscoring our technical capabilities and commitment to pushing boundaries.
